Saurabh Gupta

Artist Statement – Saurabh Gupta

Saurabh Gupta (b. 9 January 2004) was born and raised in the village of Saidabad in Ghazipur district, Uttar Pradesh, India. He is currently based in Delhi and works primarily with oil and acrylic on canvas. Largely self-taught, Saurabh developed a deep interest in art at a young age. He was drawn to master painters and the language of surrealism, which continues to influence his creative approach where he uses expressive and imaginative elements.

Saurabh’s work can be described as a form of spontaneous realism, where natural subjects are rendered with unexpected and often unconventional color palettes. These choices aim to connect with the viewer’s subconscious perception and emotional memory, creating imagery that feels both familiar and dreamlike.

Nature is central to his artistic exploration. His paintings often feature trees, plants, flowers, birds, and animals, forming layered visual environments that reflect the delicate relationship between humans and the natural world. Through these compositions, Saurabh expresses concern about the ways human activity disrupts ecological balance, translating these reflections onto canvas through careful observation and expressive brushwork.

Working professionally since 2016, Saurabh continues to refine his visual language while maintaining a strong commitment to themes of nature, atmosphere, and environmental awareness.
