Runa Biswas is a practising artist based out of Bengaluru for the past two decades. Originally from Kolkata with a Master’s degree in Economics and a Diploma in Art, she works out of her studio in the city. With 3 Solo and 20+ group Art Exhibitions in the city as well as Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai and Kolkata, she has been able to generate interests in the art circle comprising critics as well as art collectors in India and abroad. Especially her series on Moochwale and Laal Kamal-Neel Kamal has achieved quite a following amongst art collectors and connoisseurs, both Nationally and Internationally.
Runa has, over the years, achieved a distinctive visual style and language that brings together Indian Miniature painting style with that of modern European application. The result has been an unusual mix of emotional content and an interplay of fluid colours and bold lines.
Her subjects are mostly figurative, inspired by dreams, folklores, stories and moments, and deep symbolism drawn from life, of other people she knows or came across, and at times even from her own memories. At ease with both black&white and sumptuous colours, each of her paintings are unique yet hold on to a central visual theme that has become her signature, evoking curiosity and egging art lovers to delve a little deeper into the layered meaning behind each painting.
