Avi Hemdev

Avi Hemdev has developed his own unique method of painting including pours, digital and photography, often working on a large scale.

His fascination is with the potentiality of images and photography’s uncomplicated and beautiful relationship with paint.

Recreating moments of pure wonder on canvas is now an ongoing exercise for him.

Waterscapes are at the core of his work.
They are a particularly captivating subject due to its ever-changing form, movements, and reflections.

This increased familiarity with water's dynamic qualities has led Avi to experiment with a more abstract representation. By letting go of strict realism, he conveys the fluidity, flow, and emotional aspects of water through suggestive and symbolic forms. The interplay of colors, textures, and brush strokes in his works evokes feelings and impressions, allowing viewers to engage with the artwork on a more subjective, emotional and personal level.

Furthermore, the act of recreating water in a painting allows Avi to explore the intersection of reality and interpretation. By transforming literal images into abstract expressions, he attempts to convey not only what they see but also how he feels about the water and the environment.

The work captures the fast changing light at either dawn or dusk. The reflections are low lit creating long shadows. Mostly magical and uplifting. With strong undercurrents.
Colours are added on tonally to evoke emotions.

Exploiting the reflective surface of water and its movement and its ripples Avi exploits this distortion creatively to convey a sense of motion, turbulence within the work allowing the viewer to to experience a more dynamic and engaging piece of art.

To see water with the reflection of the sun or night lights makes for one of the most beautiful settings ever and it’s sight only adds to the mental wealth we keep within us. The only wealth that truly matters. The only wealth we take with us when we depart this realm.

Water, light and movement probably make for some of the best subjects ever.
