Based in Geneva, Rupesh Patric, a self-taught charcoal artist, creates works and characters that tell stories. At the same time, he tries to give each canvas a sense of purpose as well as a renewed sense of belonging and beauty. He categorizes his work by the subject matter, seldom the style, because he tends to go beyond the limitation of a specific style.
Rupesh's works reveal contradiction, which is his favourite way of sketching. From fluid charcoal shading techniques to textural sketching with graphite, he is immensely accomplished in this art form. Rupesh is the first Indian charcoal artist to be showcased on 'Wikipedia'.
He is credited as the only Indian artist to have been presented with the opportunity to do a live portrait of Bill Gates and the first charcoal artist to have received a formal invitation to speak at 'TED' (Technology, Entertainment, Design, which is a non-profit organization devoted to ideas worth spreading.)
